Will Pocket get a Folders feature? It would make it a lot easier for people who have a lot of to-be-read-later links on their accounts.

If you look at the tagging feature more closely, you'll see that it gives you all the benefits of folders but with the flexibility of multi-topic indexing. Bulk edit allows you to tag articles from a list of tags you've already set up or to create a new one. You can then search for articles by tag (as if looking in a folder) or look through ALL articles on file. The directions in the help menu are very clear.

I've had the same question. Instapaper does, but I just don't like the end-user interface. Pocket is so much cleaners and fluid! Anyway, I've been tagging certain content (or categorizing them) that I want in a "folder" until Pocket opens that functionality up.

Hope that helps!

I would love to have folders too. I don't like tags because its not easy to assign articles to existing tags without having to type the whole tag name. I'd love to be able to move stuff into folders.

Hi MJSpice!

We currently have the ability to tag in Pocket, but are not planning on adding folders. Here is some more information on how to use the tagging feature within the web app: http://help.getpocket.com/customer/portal/articles/332535-using-tags-in-the-pocket-web-app

Hope that’s helpful!

May we please suggest adding the folder features?
I do realize that you'll have a tagging feature.
But having all my links in one page, it becomes a daunting task to find the right one. Folders would make the Pocket experience so much more fluid. If many other customers support this act, would you be looking forward to add this feature for us?

Thank you.

I understand how to use tags, but folder's would be a welcomed addition. At least, give the option to add headings or some compartment feature so that the general layout of the Pocket interface will not change, but it will be easier to keep discrete groups or subjects separate.

I agree with Leon - having just loaded and started to use Instapaper, I much prefer Pocket's clean interface, view options and ability to handle video.

However, with so much material I need to use folders to organise my stuff - tags just doesn't cut it for me.

Please consider adding folders, Pocket - then you'd be an Instapaper beater!

I'm going to keep using Pocket for pages that contain video or are very complex.

I'd also like the folders function in order to clear up the landing page. Instapaper's better in that front.

In reference to Nikki, can't we at least get an option to choose tags from a list of previously used tags? It's pretty tedious typing the tags in every time.

The lack of this feature means I simply do not use it for professional (work) stuff as I just dont want all my cool links I find at home to be mixed up with stuff about financial institutions etc that I need at work.

Great app but a real shame it lacks this very standard functionality.

I just opened up the Pocket app after saving quite a few articles on various topics. After being overwhelmed by the list, I tried to create a folder by looking in the preferences, right clicking, dragging and dropping on one another, to no avail. Please consider adding folders. This is a must have app, but I really want to be able to organize my articles by topic.

Thank you for the otherwise awesome app!

I SO agree with all of you! I have been struggling with this, I understand the value of tags but even Gmail allows you to place messages in folders (in addition to tags/labels, which are also great).

MUCH NEEDED FUNCTIONALITY! Pocket is my favorite app but it's getting too cluttered, there must be a way to separate certain topics - especially personal/professional - via Folders!

Great example: I want to read industry news for my job, but when I go to my Pocket, I have a mix of more tedious professional articles and fun, goofy buzzfeed articles. Which one will the average person read? I go straight to funny cat videos haha

The feature of folders is very important, especially nested folders. It allows you to organize articles so that it is easy to find what we need. I just wonder why your team doesn't want to add this feature.

I agree with the list above; folders (and nested folders) are necessary in order to keep organized. Tags just doesn't cut it. Telling us to use tags for the functionality we all want is just a big copout. You have the potential for a great product here, but you're keeping it crippled.

I love Pocket and have been using it since it was Read it Later. The only flaw that I can really find is the lack of a folder feature. I initially used Instapaper and the folder option was there, I liked Pocket better but imagine my surprise when I was unable to put my reads into folders?

If you go to List View, you see the feature of add / edit tag on mouse over effect. This is as good as having folders! You can of course, see the content of each tag immediately afterwards.

Thanks Pocket, for offering us a beautiful app :)

Given the number of requests you've received for folders, I'm amazed that you're still refusing to consider such functionality. What's the point of asking for customer feedback if you're gonna ignore it?
Please reconsider adding folders.

Yes, big +1 for folders. I have about 3000 saved articles and tagging manually is a nightmare, especially since you can't select your entire archive at once to remove all the tags. There's potential to save on bandwidth for both Pocket's servers and the user if only the selected folder is downloaded.

I get that support needs to tow the line and push the tags as "more flexible" but it's not. Or at least it's not when there's not an organizational structure for tagging. Like folders! I love pocket, use it non-stop. I love it so much, that I save a lot of stuff to read later. It's one of the coolest free apps out there and as a free app, I'm sure this is a programming headache with limited resources. Tags just aren't very efficient in this environment. no more of the 'it's better..more flexible etc..'. It's just not. I actually exchanged emails with someone in support who acknowledged the need for folders and she said it was a huge priority in pocketland. It's not even in the top FAQ's and I'd be willing to bet this is the #1 FAQ.

Hi Guys,
Loving this app! It is absolutely wonderful!
Same as many other users, I find the multi-tagging not so convenient and my main folder starts getting a bit messy with so many articles. It would be great if you had this functionality. I would be happy to upgrade to a paid version if you do. Please let me know. Kind regards, Simon

I stopped using pocket because of the lack of folders. It's just not worth the time investment for me to tag everything just to be lost all over again. I check support every 6 months or so to see if they added the feature, but am consistently let down.

Classic rule of startups---listen to your customers. I founded a funded startup company and it was a major lesson learned.

Believe me folks, it's arrogance from the pocket team that makes them think they know your needs better than you.

Tone pocket team-- this could be a slam dunk. Build what your users want--folders. And be done with it. Sheesh.

Tags are nice, but not the same as folders. One of the best things about Pocket is the visual appeal, but a long list of dozens, hundreds, thousands of articles starts to detract from that appeal. Not to mention how tough it can be to find certain article, tagged or not. So I'm just adding to the appeal: listen to your users and please add folders, with subfolder capability. Help keep your users fans of your software.

Another vote for folders for the same reason everyone else has said. I get tags, I understand them but they are not enough.

I would like to put longer term and longer read items in folders so I can concentrate on today and now items that must be read now whilst still relevant.

I use show untagged but it is a mess on the landing page as it never sticks and I have the search bar showing at the top all the time which takes up valuable space especially on the iPhone.

It is insulting to your user base to keep suggesting they don't get tags. We do, we just know that folders would be a better solution to our real world usage.

Having folders is much simpler in terms of mass editing. I would like to see 5 folders. Not hundreds like other programs. I would just like to be able to rate them by urgency. Maybe even a star system. Also I guess separating work/personal content would be much simpler this way.

Well, do I need to even add emphasis here? Without folders, the volume is unmanageable and the app is only mildly useful.

You could at least add a dropdown for adding/deleting/editing tags that could be dynamically modified, so that typing errors were not so problematic. And, if you're not going to allow folders, list all the tags on a given article, so we can review at a glance and edit individually or in bulk.

You're obviously saying you don't want people keeping their "stuff" in pocket too long. You want to ship us off to Evernote, which I find to be a clunky tool. Why don't you think about archiving (or deleting) any articles that have not been touched in over 6 months. Just make that the big disclaimer. As long as you review your items, they stay. Leave them dormant for 6 months, they're gone.

PLEASE CONSIDER THIS. I'm looking for a Pocket replacement, and at some point that replacement will come along if you don't fix this problem!

Hi Team,

Whilst tagging is good, there're more chances of mistyping words. This would then make the article, in effect, lost when searching.

Its alos more time consuming to add tags.

With a folder system, it's a one time naming of teh folder and just dragging everything in...easy!

hello, i completely agree with what other users are suggesting. as an organization freak, i see the differences and benefits in tagging but it does not replace the convenience and simplicity of folders. pocket is my most widely used app and i use it frequently on mobile, web and ipad.

while i do use pocket in conjunction with evernote, it's just an obstacle and chore. this completely hinders the user experience.

I love Pocket, but I don't use it nearly as much as I'd like to because of the lack of folders. It's a huge gap. Tags aren't intuitive to me, and I shouldn't have to rewire my working routine and my brain to use your product.

What I do as a workaround is save things in Pocket to read, and then I move them to Evernote, where I can save them permanently, organize them in notebooks, etc. At some point I will probably just start skipping the Pocket step and make Evernote my default tool of choice....unless Pocket adds folder functionality. Please!
