Highlight text and add notes, like Kindle

Eric Jun 06, 2012 11:05AM PDT

Hi, and thanks for a great product!

One feature that would make the app even more wonderful to me would be the ability to highlight text in articles and add notes, just like the functionality in the Kindle app.

That also enables fun features like "The section most highlighted by Pocket users in this article is...", etc.

I would like this feature. In fact I was amazed it wasn't already part of your feature set. Just last night I was looking all over for it and came to support today to see if I had somehow missed a setting. To me it is not a nice to have -it's a got to have.

YES. And I know dozens or hundreds of vocal readers who would switch to Pocket instantly if this feature were (well) implemented. Readmill is how I read books. This would make Pocket the way I read articles.

Please, Please Add Notes Jul 02, 2012 04:03PM PDT
This is such an easy thing to add -- even if it's not as fancy as the Kindle -- just a simple note associated with each article. This is the only reason why I continue to use Instapaper, although would love to switch to Pocket for the otherwise great app. P.S. There's lots of us out there :)

@justin how is it going with the development. I would love to see a highlighting feature. For starter just a simple one but later on be able to collect and summarize the highlights and the attached notes. Be able to click the highlights to see the full context.

Even the simplest form of a Notes feature would be extremely valuable; then I could usefully annotate my saved links/text to remind myself later as to why I Pocketed it -- to share with someone else, to respond to, to file for later reading, to research further, etc.

(Highlighting would also be very appreciated.)

Thank you very much for all your work with Pocket, it's an essential daily app for me across both web and Android.

Highlighting and annotation are critical features in an app like Pocket. I'm sure that if Pocket does not add them, it will create an easy opportunity for a competitor.

In the meantime, I output my notes to Evernote to add this functionality.

In other book reading apps such as kindles and ibooks, these features existed, but to articles readers, these are as important!!!!

Oh yes, this could be a great-great feature. I use it a lot while reading articles from Kindle, but not always I can use it. I wish I could also do it on my smartphone and desktop.
I'm a blogger so I often reply to some articles, that's when I write notes attached to some text's excerpt.

I really hope you will include it in the Pocket. It's the only thing that keeps it apart from being a perfect reading tool :)

Pocket at the moment is my bookmarking and quick-read-later service.

If I want to highlight or add notes, I have to either open the page in a new browser, open up Notebook/Word, and get to work. I would use that Evernote Clip thing extension, but for some reason it doesnt work. And anyway, its not as convenient as highlighting directly onto the page.

If Pocket introduced highlight and note taking directly onto the "Read Easily" pages, I think... I might cry.
It would be the PERFECT utility for collecting, saving, organizing, reviewing pages and gathering data.

Maybe later down the line you could also add a feature that lists the notes in one space like the Skim .pdf reader so the notes are all easily accessible and usable in one place. Being able to keep to tag the notes would be a further amazing plus.

PLEASE consider!
Thank you!

If I could add a simple text string to an item that'd be a massive help, especially in keeping track of how I came across the content. Your twitter source integration is great, but there are many other ways we com across content! See Amazon Wish List notes as a reference of a very simple implementation. Thanks!

Id think Pocket could make annotations available cross platform pretty easily on the converted text.Andit would really set you apart from Diigo and other webpage highlighters, which don't offer much in the way of cross platform functionality. Definitely a very big thumbs up for this.

I use pocket on all my devices (ipod touch, iPad, mac, Samsung Galaxy Tab, Windows 8) and I have been with this service for many years. In fact, in its "Read It Later" days I was I bought paid option by paying a small amount for Pro version on web and for my Apple devices.

But one thing I seriously miss in this wonderful reading app is lack of dictionary and ability to annote and highlight the article I am reading. Although I am not a programmer, I am certain that it is not impossible to integrate these two features, which many users like me want in Pocket, as Evernote already does so in Clearly.

If adding these two extensions does not look like a feasible solution for a free app, which Pocket is, than I'd go a little far to suggest the following:

Roll out a Pro version of Pocket with these two features and see a windfall for your company. I suspect many users will like to have these two features.

And if you can manage, get pocket extension of Kindle. For serious readers, Kindle is the platform of choice. I would spend more time on Kindle if I had this on it. I guess many people will want this on their Kindle.

And for these features, I, like several others, am quite willing to pay some money.

It'll be great to have update on this from Pocket team. Anyone there?
