Replacing Google Reader hook for Firefox?

With Google Reader on the way out, I'm anxious to see what aggregator Pocket will be most compatible with. I prefer quickly sifting through my many feeds a couple times a week in Reader and then using the send-to button to enter my selections into Pocket for reading at my leisure. I'm yet to replace Reader in my stack-- I'll probably go with whatever Pocket best meshes with. But what will that be??

Open Source?

I was wondering if it would be possible to release the browser extensions open source? That way people could work at building "plugins" for lack of a better term, that would add "add to pocket" links on other sites.

That way the pocket team is not stuck writing all of that code, and people get to have the ease of use on many different sites.

I have successfully set up all new posts from an RSS feed to be added to Pocket (via IFTTT), but is there a way to import all the existing posts from an RSS feed there?

Say, I stumbled upon a blog that I really like, and I would like to import all of the previous posts into Pocket (preferably with an ability to specify a tag as well) to go through all of them though time.

Is that possible, either from within Pocket or via a third-party app?

Sending links to Pocket

While sending links via my email, I want to do the following things --
1. Have a way to specify tags.
2. Ability to send multiple links in one email. While researching for a particular topic I find multiple pages useful. I do want to read all of them at some point in future, so I gather all the links in a mail/doc/notepad. Ability to add to Pocket via email is great!! but somewhat restrictive if I need to hit compose & send button 10 times to send 10 links!! Not a pleasant user experience. Being a developer myself, I am trying think you would put this limitation when you can treat each link on a new line as a separate URL and save it to pocket?? URLs do not contain any newline character in them so the parsing logic can easily distinguish where an URL ends. Do any mail clients insert newline characters in between the URL if URL is very long?

limiting the number of locally stored items

Hi,
As a politics junkie, I have thousands of articles in my list, the vast majority of which I should have deleted or archived, but alas I have not and it will be a lot of work especially without multiple tag search.
I would be very appreciative if there was a way to set a maximum number of articles that are stored on my iphone (i.e. the most recent 200 items) so that it is not storing all 4000 articles locally and taking a huge amount of space (yes I know it is extreme!!).
thank you,

I would like to add to the voices for a better Folder or Tags system. A system that remembers your Folder/Tags so that I don't recreate tags over and over again (just choose from a drop down of personally created folders/tags). I would also like a quick method to click on a folder/tag so I can see my articles filtered by folder/tag. There should a folders/tags management tool as well. There are a lot of email examples out there (GMail, YMail, etc) that would serve as great examples.

All should be extended to the various versions (Android, Tablet, Phone, desktop, etc).

I understand this take time/resources, and that you may never get to it, but I just wanted to cast my vote so to speak.

Feature request for Firefox extension

Would like if Pocket's button inside the Awesome bar operated more like the Firefox's built-in bookmark (star) button - i.e. if I click it once, the page is quickly saved/bookmarked/pocketed and the next time I click it, I'm able to edit it's meta data like title and tags.

Since I want to use tags, I always find myself:
1. clicking the Pocket button in the Awesome bar
2. moving to the Pocket button to view my list
3. clicking the Pocket button to view my list
4. clicking edit button next to the latest item on the list
5. changing the data

If the Awesome bar button operated the way I'm proposing, this would look like this:
1. clicking the Pocket button in the Awesome bar to save item
2. clicking the Pocket button in the Awesome bar to edit item
3. changing the data

While it might seem like the difference is not large, in practice, it get's daunting to do steps 2, 3 and 4 in the first example - every time you add something and want to immediately edit it.

P.S. this addition shouldn't get in way to the current behaviour where the second click to the Awesome bar button marks the page read - this could be accomplished with the third click and the drop down dialog box after second click should incorporate a "Remove" or "Mark read" button anyway.

Why isn't it possible to view things in my archive when I'm offline?!

First of all great app! Absolutely love it.... But;

Things I save i can find under "home". Once I'm done reading an article I
Tag it and click "check mark"
Which moves it to my archive.

Why on earth do I get the message "viewing your archive requires an
Internet connection"? Makes absolutely no sense.

There should be an option at least for those who do want to have it
Locally store the article.

Thank you!

Pocket breaks Outlook Web Access and any page using document.onkeydown

Outlook Web Access includes functionality to automatically save an open message after a period of time has elapsed since the user last typed anything.

It appears that this is partly accomplished by by setting a document.onkeydown event handler.

Apparently The Chrome Pocket Extension simply wipes that handler out and replaces it with its own making OWA save and close my work 5 minutes after I start composing a message.

Please fix Pocket so that it doesn't break functionality present on websites that use the keydown event handler.

View Pocket list from Chrome

I've long enjoyed Pocket (and Read It Later), but I've found that Pocket has lost much of RIL's more streamlined features. On Chrome, I'm unable to view my Pocket list directly from the addon, unlike RIL on Firefox. Further, the Pocket list page looks very pretty but contains so much whitespace I feel a small, simple list would be much more practical.

Are there any plans to add this functionality back to the addon? I really enjoyed being able to click the addon button and view/alter my list.

If not logged in, the bookmarklet must be clicked twice?

I'm using Firefox 14 with the Pocket bookmarklet. This is the process to save a page when I use Pocket after first opening my browser.

1. Click "+ Pocket" bookmarklet.
2. The pocket banner appears and tells me I'm not logged in.
3. I open the login button on the banner. The login page appears in a new tab.
4. I enter my login info.
5. I'm taken to the Pocket web interface. The page I just tried to add to pocket is not visible here.
6. I close the new tab.
7. I click the "+ Pocket" bookmarklet again.
8. The banner appears. Now the page has been saved to Pocket.

The experience would be much nicer if steps 5, 6, and 7, were eliminated. After logging in, the new tab should close and the banner should update to show that the page had been saved.

Please, I would like to know how to export my 'pocket read it later' pages to HTML for backup purposes. Actually, Mozilla firefox allows to export and import bookmarks.

I badly need such a feature in pocket to backup my read-it-later documents because I have to format my PC and was not able to read all the documents. So, I would have exported pocket to a USB drive, then Import it to firefox after I install a fresh copy of windows.

It would be so nice and practical if this feature was available in pocket.
Grateful if you could implement this feature (if not yet implemented) or show me how to do it.

When you are scroll down a big list and want to use search or tags filter, there is no quick way to do so, and you have to scroll up until the top.
if search bar is not empty or tags filter is specified, toolbar stays visible.

It would be good to keep search and tags toolbar always visible on the top, even if no search/ tags filter is selected.

Please do not forget to post my suggestion to the forum.

First paragraph missing on London Review Of Books articles

The opening paragraph of articles on lrb.co.uk are being lost when saving to pocket. This happens both when saving from Firefox with bookmarklet, as well as when saving from Android Browser via "Share".

Example article: http://www.lrb.co.uk/v34/n09/hal-foster/at-moma

The icon for bookmarking in Google Reader inconsistently appears in Firefox.

I'm using Firefox 14.0.1 on Windows 7 64-bit. When I browse Google Reader, the browser extension adds an element to the page that lets me save an article to pocket without opening it. But this only happens for the first few articles in Google Reader; I presume this is because later articles are loaded dynamically. It seems to work consistently in Chrome, but I prefer using Firefox.

Pocket Extension for Safari (6.0)

I really love the new extension for Safari, but I'm wondering if I happen to be missing something. Hitting The Pocket button on the toolbar automatically adds the current page to my reading list, which is great. But is there a similar way to access my reading list without the use of a bookmark to the list itself? Thanks for your help, and for an awesome product.

multiple devices

Hi there
I'm currently using Pocket on my Galaxy S2. I'm planning to get a Nexus 7 tablet. Will I be able to use and access my current account (with all of its content) on the Nexus 7? In other words, can I run the same account on multiple devices?

Thanks

Is there a way to clear my search query after I close the pocket addon?

When I search something in the Pocket browser extension and then I close it and open it again, my old search query is still there. Is there a way where the addon clears my search once I exit the addon menu?

Limit for number/size of articles stored

Is there a limit for the number of articles we can store for an account?
The same question applies for storing articles on a device, especially those with limited memory/disk space.
Try to look for answer in FAQ's but no luck.

Thanks...

Firefox extension - titles missing for articles saved in Android app

Essentially, any article I save with Pocket on one of my Android devices shows up in my Firefox extension without a title (only the URL shows in the article list). Yes, I know I can rename within the extension, but that is a PITA to do for each article. The proper titles show in the web interface for these articles. Title sync *to* Android works fine -- it is just the other direction that is broken.

This isn't a new problem; I had hoped that the recent update to the extension would address this.

How to copy note saved in Evernote to Pocket?

I am traveling and just realized my notes saved in Evernote are only available when connected to the Internet. I have eight travel docs saved in an Evernote notebook that I would like to copy to Pocket so I have offline access to them. Is this possible?

Apologies if this is a repeat question. I have limited time to search fot an answer.

Thank you, Joesph
