Disable Save to Pocket features in Firefox

Introduction

Pocket is part of the Mozilla family, like Firefox. Pocket is built into Firefox so you can conveniently save any article, video or web page with the click of a button.

In case you’re not familiar with us, Pocket makes it easy to discover high quality content that’s worthy of your attention, and to save content so you can return to it when you have the time. Pocket’s free mobile apps allow you to view your saved content from anywhere, even if your device is offline.

If you would rather not use Pocket in Firefox, that's ok! It's easy to disable it.

Remove Pocket Recommendations from the New Tab

If you prefer to not see Pocket Recommendations on your Firefox new tab, you can hide them. Here’s how:

Firefox for Windows, Mac and Linux
  1. Open Firefox on your computer and open a new tab
  2. Click the New Tab Preferences gear icon at the top right corner of your New Tab page
  3. Uncheck Recommended by Pocket

Firefox for Android
  1. Open Firefox for Android
  2. Tap the overflow menu at the top right corner, and then tap Settings
  3. Tap General
  4. Tap Home
  5. Tap Top Sites
  6. Turn off Recommended by Pocket
Firefox for iOS
  1. Open Firefox for iOS
  2. Open the menu in the toolbar at the bottom right corner, and tap Settings
  3. Tap New Tab
  4. Turn off Recommended by Pocket

Note: Pocket Recommendations on the Firefox new tab are currently available in the U.S., Canada, and Germany.

Hide the Pocket Button from your Address Bar

The Pocket button will appear whenever you're on a page that can be saved. If you would rather it not show in your Address Bar, you can hide it by following these instructions:

  1. Right-click (or control-click) on the Pocket button in your Firefox Address Bar
  2. Select Remove from Address Bar

Disable Pocket in Firefox

If you would like to completely disable Pocket in Firefox, you can do that too! The steps are a little tricky if you're not used to tinkering with software, so please follow the instructions carefully.

  1. Type about:config in the location bar
  2. You’ll see a message that says “This might void your warranty!” This is because the about:config page allows you to change advanced browser settings. When visiting this page, please make sure you’re ready to follow our instructions carefully, and then click “I accept the risk!”
  3. In the Search box at the top, type pocket.enabled. This will present you with some information about Pocket.
  4. Double click on this information to set the value to “false”.
  5. The Pocket button will no longer appear in your Address Bar or the Library menu.

I disabled the Pocket button. How can I bring it back?

If you disabled Pocket for Firefox using one of the options above, it’s easy to re-enable it. Just follow the same steps as described above, simply turn Pocket back on. Here's now to revert the changes in Firefox on your computer, since there a little more

If you removed the Pocket Button in your Address Bar only:

  1. Click on the ●●● button on the right side of your Address Bar
  2. Right-click (or control-click) on Save to Pocket, and select Add to Address Bar

If you disabled Pocket in Firefox:

  1. Type about:config in the location bar
