Trouble Saving with Pocket's Browser Extensions

If you see a "Save Unsuccessful" message when saving from Pocket's browser extensions, this likely means that third-party cookies are being blocked in your browser. However, there may be other causes for this issue as well. Please read below to learn how to get the Pocket Extension working again. After each step, please try to save a page to Pocket to see if you're successful.

1. Log into Pocket in your browser

Because the Pocket extension is closely tied to the website, it's important to make sure you're logged in properly. If you are using an Incognito Window or Private Browsing, or if you regularly clear your cookies, it's important to remember to log back into Pocket before you can start saving. Click below to ensure that you're logged into Pocket:

3. Check your third-party cookies settings and make an exception for Pocket

Many browsers have an option to "Block third-party cookies" as a security measure. When enabled, this prevents the Pocket extension from saving pages properly, and will show a "Save Unsuccessful" message. Please see below to learn how to check if you are blocking third-party cookies, and how to add Pocket as an exception to the rule:

Google Chrome

  1. Go to Tools > Settings or Preferences > Show advanced settings...
  2. Click the Content Settings... button
  3. Under Cookies, check to see if "Block third party cookies and site data" is checked.
  4. If it is, click the Manage Exceptions button
  5. Type "getpocket.com" as a Hostname pattern (without the quotes)
  6. Click Done, then return to the page you want to save, and try again.

Opera

  1. Go to Opera > Preferences
  2. Select the Privacy and Security section on the left
  3. In the Cookies section, check to see if "Block third party cookies and site data" is checked.
  4. In the Cookies section, click the Manage Exceptions... button
  5. Type "getpocket.com" as a Hostname pattern (without the quotes)
  6. Click Done, then return to the page you want to save, and try again.
